ShutOut®

Internal teat sealant for the prevention of mastitis during the non-lactating (dry) period.

Active Ingredient
BISMUTH SUBNITRATE 650 mg/g.

Description and Pack Sizes:
Bismuth subnitrate 2.6g in an oily base in a 4 gram syringe. Available in tubs of 144 syringes.

Indications
For the prevention of mastitis during the non-lactating (dry) period:

  • In lactating heifers (first calvers) and cows with somatic cell counts (SCC) of less than 120,000 and 150,000 respectively.
  • In cows and heifers with a higher somatic cell count (SCC) immediately following treatment with appropriate antibiotic dry cow therapy.

SHUTOUT is also indicated for the prevention of peri-calving mastitis in maiden heifers.

Dosage
Infuse the entire contents of one SHUTOUT syringe to form a seal.  After infusion do not massage or squeeze the teat, as this may dislodge the seal.
Lactating heifers and cows with SCC below 120,000 and 150,000 respectively:
Immediately after the last milking at drying off, prior to treatment with SHUTOUT, the udder should be stripped. The recommended method is to disinfect and treat one teat at a time. Clean teat thoroughly with a teat wipe (or cotton wool ball) moistened in 70% methylated spirits (30% water) until no longer visibly dirty.  Teats should be allowed to dry prior to insertion. Carefully infuse the entire contents of one syringe to form a seal. Repeat the process on the other three teats and finish by teat spraying all teats. After infusion do not massage or squeeze the teat, as this may dislodge the seal.
